Biography
Printmaker, painter, and sculptor Maurilio Minuzzi was born in Pramaggiore, Veneto, Italy on March 9, 1939. He attended the Scuola Superiore d'arte Applicata in Milan from 1955 to 1957, studying painting and printmaking under Carlo Russi before apprenticing as a technical draftsman from 1957 to 1959.
From 1959 to 1962 he attended engineering school in Milan before traveling to England and the United States, working as a photographer and graphic artist. After working various jobs, he settled in Germany, taking courses at the Cologne Werkschulen from 1966 to 1970. After his alotted ten semesters of free graphic arts classes he was appointed to Cologne University as a lecturer of printmaking techniques, and in 1975 received his first commission from the federal ministry for work related to environmental protection.
Throughout his career he has participated in over 100 exhibitions in Europe and the United Stated. In 1994 he was awarded the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic in the Cavalier class. His work canbe found in the collections of the Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris; the Brooklyn Museum and the New York Public Library, New York; the Willhelm Busch Museum, Hanover; and Emsland Museum, Sögel.
Maurilio Minuzzi died in Cologne on July 17, 2021.
