Description

Author, poet, printer, publisher and artist Wilder Bentley the Elder was a close friend of Berkeley artist Chiura Obata and Obata helped him develop a seal in Japanese, which Bentley used to sign his work.

Erwin Rosenthal, historian, antiquarian, and scion of the famous Jacques Rosenthal "dynasty" of antiquarian book and manuscript dealers, was born in Germany. He came to the United States in the 1930s, where his lectures and publications were highly praised.

Erwin Rosenthal corresponded with Bentley and authored a number of articles about him. This work was returned to the Bentley family after Erwin's death.
