Description
Philadelphia-born Joseph Pennell, spent the first two decades of his career abroad, living primarily in London, where he became a close associate of Whistler. Here, he represents the main facade of Rouen's medieval cathedral, in northern France, a scaffolding erected at one end and figures walking on the plaza. The artist printed about ninety proofs.
