The title of the etching and the publication translate as "The Painter in front of his easel" from The Taste of Happiness, a suite of three of Picasso's studio sketchbooks reproduced in lithographic form, with an introduction by Jean Marcerac. The deluxe editions, one published in America (Harry N. Abrams, Inc., New York), one in Germany (Carl Schunemann Verlag, Berlin), and one in France (Editions Cercle d'Art, Paris), each contained one original etching by the artist, this being from the American edition.
