Rosen sometimes created sketches as reference for future paintings, but the sketches themselves remained stand-alone works themselves. This is one such sketch, a precursor to a large-format watercolor. As was his style he kept the visual information to a minimum, allowing the viewer to look deeper into the composition and discover the story as it emerges.
