Description
A sense of strength and quietude is often found in the work of Jack Jefferson. A noted Bay Area Abstract Expressionist who studied and taught at the California School of Fine Arts (which during his tenure became the San Francisco Art Intitute) he is among the students whose work is synonymous with the West Coast's contribution to the genre.
Cerulean and ochre soft push against black and white, performing a delicate, abstract dance. Done after his retirement from teaching, Jefferson had entered a period of prolific artistic exploration and frequently presented his works in suites that signified a particular evolution of style. This work is the sixth image in "Nine Works: Number Suite, 1984 - 1992".
