Description

A vibrant composition in silkscreen exemplifying mid-century American Abstract Expressionism. Made up of a collection of delicate shapes arranged on an ochre field, Chatham's "Summer Day" appears at once spontaneous and intentional, and her use of transparent inks provides luminesence.

After an adventurous few decades that led her from Canada to Texas and from Pennsylvania to Seattle, Doris Meyer moved to the San Francisco Bay Area, specifically just north of the Golden Gate to Marin County, to teach painting and printmaking at Marin College. Her proximity to the hub of Abstract Expressionist exploration taking place in San Francisco and its surrounds was likely a boon to her personal creativity, and her output during her time in Marin County was prolific.
