Description

Printmaker-teacher Kathryn (Kay) Metz was able to work both with S.W. Hayter at Atelier 17 in Paris learning intaglio and with master lithography printer Robert Blackburn in New York. The connections to these two collaborative print studios manifest themselves in her work in her abstract imagery, use of color and technical mastery of the plate.

Because of her long teaching career Kay Metz has not been involved in creating work for the market and her editions tend to be very small, if the work is even editioned.

"Boboli Study" uses the intaglio techniques of aquatint and drypoint. Metz did a series of prints in different media inspired by the gardens of Boboli, a park in Florence, Italy that covers 111 acres. It is located behind the Pitti Palace and was created in the 16th century.
