In addition to the velvety mezzotint that Shuey is known for, this composition features a fine scattering of lines and patterns layered over the surface, likely engraved with power tools (seen in the detail picture). This creates a delicate tension with the voluptuous, dimensional shapes of the "hanged man." An exemplary image of Shuey's keen understanding of intaglio printmaking, and his use of chiaroscuro for drama and shape.
