Description
This is state two of three for the engraving "Yellow River" done in San Francisco, California after Hayter moved to the U.S., before settling in New York. There is also a carved plaster print of this print in the final state which included a soft-ground texture.

This is a proof impression and has ink stains, fingerprints, etc within the image, on the margins and slight creases in the image. It is pencil initialled "SWH", dated "11.9.40 / San Francisco" and annotated "Etat II". This will be sold as a pair with FRBE312 (state I).
