Description
According to Gene Baro: Sensitive to the course of repressive politics in Europe, Eichenberg welcomed the assignment to provide illustrations for Tolstoy’s Resurrection. As a result of this project, he pursued researches into the Czarist exile system. Historical learning as well as artistic sympathy went into the making of the nineteen wood engravings for this edition. The artist worked on endgrain boxwood. The book designer was Joseph Blumenthal; printing was at Spiral Press.
