	Description
The Croatian city Makarska is the main destination of the Makarska Riviera, situated between the Biokovo Mountains and Adriatic Sea. This is a view of the town center with the steeple of St. Mark's Cathedral in the left of the plate and sailboats reflected in the calm water at the bottom of the plate. As with much of Croatia, a major hub of trade throughout the ages, the architecture is influenced by Byzantine, Venetian, Gothic, and Turkish styles. Max Pollak's rendering of the harbor, made minute against the face of the mountain, invites the viewer to relax and daydream.
