Description
Peter Hurd, reflecting on the background of this image: "Sometime in the middle thirties I was painting an elderly cattleman named Jesse Jenkins. I stayed in the bunkhouse with the cowboys and made a drawing of one of them sitting in the doorway, looking out into the starlit night. My subject was a likeable, good looking boy named Leet Forbis. Leet was killed in Italy shortly after our Fifth Army began its advance northward to recaputer Rome. A German mine blew up the jeep in which he was riding."
