Description
Trees, especially oaks, were of particular interest to Oscar Droege, whose color woodcuts incorporate a dramatic tonality to achieve the essence of the season he wanted to portray. Here, a moody sky complements the slope of a shadowed hillside. A strip of sunlit ground just beyond suggests the beginnings of spring, as the clouds move on to reveal the color beginning to emerge from the earth.
