"Wild Horses" was the fourth of five prints offered by the San Francisco Chronicle on Sunday, March 17, 1940, in their second series of Contemporary Graphics on Sunday.
Arthur C. Painter wrote about Young's lithograph: 'Beckford Young, interested in objects in space and their relationship has developed "Wild Horses" with a sliding plane composition. The tension thus created sets up intense activity. The composition is primarily of two planes, the horses and the mesa, interlocked by a plane sweeping in an arc from the upper left to the lower right. This down motion is counterpoised by the upward motion of the mesa at the right and horse at left.'
