Description
An image of a wooden bridge over the Central Canal in Indianapolis, Indiana, where it meets the more residential part of its path. At the time of this print's creation, many residential yards sloped directly down into the banks of the canal.
Harry LeRoy Taskey was born in Rockford, Indiana in 1892, and studied art at the Art Students League with John Sloan and Harry Sternberg. During 1935-1943 he produced most of his artwork while working for the New York Federal Art Project. His work was surrounded and influenced by the architecture and social scene of New York City. Among his work the most notable were, "Manhattan Sheep," "Battery Park," and "Civic Repertory Theater." All his prints were in an edition of about 25.
