The year 1952 proved to be an auspicious one for Gustave Baumann. He exhibited paintings in an alcove of the Museum of New Mexico Art Gallery (now the New Mexico Museum of Art) on the 1st of January and at the close of the month he participated in the exhibition No Savvy Arte! which was also held at the Museum of New Mexico Art Gallery. The exhibition, Gustave Baumann: A Retrospective Exhibition of Color Woodcuts, opened on June 8th at the same museum. Due to the impact of this exhibition, many of Baumann’s friends contributed to a fund which allowed them to purchase all the color woodcuts and ephemeral items on exhibit and they donated them the following year for the collection of the Museum of New Mexico Art Gallery.
