Description
The year 1968 was marked by significant political and cultural upheavals and achievements worldwide. It was defined by major events such as the assassinations of Martin Luther King and Robert F. Kennedy, the Tet Offensive in Viet Nam, and widespread protests in France, Mexico, and at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. On December 24, Apollo 8 was the first crewed spacecraft to leave Earth’s gravitational sphere of influence, and the first human spaceflight to reach the Moon. Baumann's sentiments were shared by much of the country - hoping for a silver lining in 1969.
