Description
"Aigle Royal" was engraved by Hecht in 1928-29 at Atelier 17 in Paris and appears to have been pulled in just a few proofs. It has a full page illustration on page 83 of the catalogue raisonné. It was seeing Hecht's engravings that piqued Hayter's interest in the medium and resulted in Hayter, with Hecht's help, starting Atelier 17 as a venue to experiment with the medium, which Hayter felt had been abandoned as a fine print method. Hecht's images overwhelmingly included animals and birds. Following "Aigle Royal" he engraved a portfolio of 11 prints titled "Animaux." See our Biography of Hecht for more information.
