Description
In 1915, the year before his death, the American wood engraver won the Grand Prize for his printmaking at the Panama Pacific Exposition in San Francisco. The Wolf prints we have were available for sale at the PPIE and many were the actual prints exhibited and have the label from the PPIE. This print was done after Holbein's portrait of the Danish princess Christina, the 16 year old widow of the Duke of Milan and a proposed bride of Henry VIII, which did not occur, luckily for her. Holbein's portrait is in the National Gallery in London.
