In 1915, the year before his death, the American wood engraver won the Grand Prize for his printmaking at the Panama Pacific International Exposition (PPIE) in San Francisco. The Wolf prints we have were available for sale at the PPIE and many were the actual prints exhibited and have the label from the PPIE.
Engraved after the portrait by Boston painter Robert Vonnoh of his wife, sculptor Bessie Potter Vonnoh. Bessie Vonnoh studied under Lorado Taft at the Art Institute of Chicago and later became one of his assistants. She was given her first major commission at the World's Columbian Exposition of 1893, after which she opened her own studio. She found success as an artist in her own right and was considered one of the foremost American Impressionist sculptors of her time.
