Description
What was called Casa la Floresta in the early 20th century is now the Villa Floresta bed and breakfast, situated in Taormina, Sicily. The courtyard, a portion of which is depicted here, dates to the 14th century while the rest of the structure was updated in the 19th century.
Johannes Nielsen was an architect and artist in Copenhagen, and was the royal building inspector for Jaegersborg Dyrehave. He traveled with some frequency to Italy and Sicily, studying ancient architecture.
From the collection of the Danish writer, critic, and collector, Georg Frederik Brøchner (1847-1933). Brøchner wrote many articles for The Studio and The International Studio.
