Description
A blue, mountainous horizon is silhouetted against rosy dusk light, as a figure carrying a bundle on their back approaches a Japanese farmhouse in this early Micah Schwaberow, “Above Yamashita’s.”
The house belonged to a friend with whom he lived during his studies with Toshi Yoshida in Nagai, Japan. Schwaberow’s mastery of light was a staple of his work from the beginning of his career, coaxing gentle tonality from the woodblocks with as much deftness as any watercolorist.
