Description
Leggy cypress trees sprouting along the U.S. Highway 1 coastline dance against a backdrop of layered, sunset-hued sky. Spitzak, a Seattle-based color woodcut artist, frequently depicts the sea as both object and metaphor, finding inspiration in its singular beauty as well as its ability to illuminate the stories of endangered things and places. His style is reminiscent of British artists of the 1930s Grosvenor School and mid-century Japanese Modernists. You can find more examples of his work on his website, www.charlesspitzack.com.
