	Description
In architecture the capital forms the topmost member of a column and broadens the area of the column’s supporting surface. The capital, often selected for decoration, is the clearest indicator of the architectural order. Some of the finest carvings come from France but the sculptor evolved his design in accordance with the block he was carving. John Taylor Arms seems to have left no clue to the church or cathedral in France where he sketched this Gothic floral capital.
