Description

The Cath├ędrale Notre-Dame de l'Assomption de Rouen is a Catholic church in Rouen, Normandy, France. The cathedral was built and rebuilt over more than eight hundred years so the architecture has features from the Early Gothic to the late Flamboyant and Renaissance styles. Arms visited Rouen in 1924 and made sketches of the some of the gargoyles and of the town of Rouen with the cathedral looming above. His original sketch for his etching Gargoyle Studies (a.k.a. Ugly Devil) is in the Cleveland Museum of Art, a gift from Carole and Charles Rosenblatt.
