Description

The Lincoln Cathedral, also called the Cathedral Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Lincoln, and St. Mary's Cathedral, is the seat of the Anglican Bishop of Lincoln in the United Kingdom. The cathedral is one of the most spectacular Gothic buildings and held the record for the world’s tallest building for over two centuries until its center spire collapsed in a storm. The cathedral sports numerous fantastical grotesque sculptures and gargoyles. In his etching, A Gargoyle, Lincoln Cathedral, Arms depicted a fancifully sculpted drain spout. Gargoyles are attached to roof drains and are placed horizontally out from the buildings Their hollowed centers and their open mouths allow water to project outward and away from the building.
