William T. Wiley's penchant for incorporating puns, non sequiturs, and other plays on words is on full display in this work, aptly titled "Were King Sketch" (or "working" sketch). Among these annotations are: "A Version: Some on as talanted Lucky and beawbifull as you will gain little bitchin sympathy. OR when the King Whines the Dog Pines. NO NO THAT! SNOT IT!"; "Add Vice Collumn for a Friend"; "This is plumb naughty!", and "Crewed In Tell A Gents".
The exhibition label from the Allan Frumkin Gallery that accompanied this work noted that the mediums used were ink and watercolor. However, as the color sits on the surface of the paper in thick, dimensional shapes, it's unclear if they're the result of tubed watercolor or acrylic paint.
