Description

Volume III of the art and literary periodical from Woodstock, NY, published from 1923 to 1929 as a "record of the achievements, artistic and literary, of the Woodstock Colony." This edition contains issues 10 and 11 and includes the following tipped-in original blockprints: color woodcut by Paul Rohland, page 19; color woodcut, "The Eight Bold Reigners", Peter Mearns, page 29; linocut, Carl Walters, page 37; linocut, Arnold Blanch, page 43 woodcut, Warren Wheelock, page 45. Additionally, three tipped-in drawings that appear to be lithographically reproduced: "Dancer" by Pamela Bianco, page 7; "Foiled Again", Peggy Bacon, page 20, and Konrad Cramer (seated female nude), page 41. Various tipped-in reproductions of paintings and photographs also adorn the pages.

This edition was published not long after the death of painter George Bellows, who was himself a Woodstock Colony regular. The first editorial is a remembrance of Bellows' character as a friend and compatriot as well as an artist. There are written works by Richard Hughes, Margery Williams, Richard Le Gallienne, Glenway Prescott, and many others.
