Description

Mislau is the German spelling for Myslová, now known as Kostelni Mysolvá in the Czech Republic - though at the time of Pollak's execution of this piece, it was still Czechoslovakia. This was likely meant as a preparatory drawing for a future color aquatint. It is a small village (population around 100) and municipality in the Jihlava District of the Vyso?ina Region in the Czech Republic.

The area has a rich history, with its origins dating back to the 13th century. The village is located about 30 kilometers south of the city of Jihlava and is part of the scenic Bohemian-Moravian Highlands.

The village is home to the church of St. Wenceslaus (Kostel svatého Václava). The village's name, Kostelní, translates to "church" and was added to distinguish it from other places with the same name because of its prominent church.

Pollak captures a moment during the day, two people stand talking in front of an aging building, perhaps a hotel or tavern, being entered by a woman who has climbed some stairs to reach the door
