Thor was a Norse god and the roar of thunder was believed to be the rumble of the wheels of his chariot as he crossed the vault of the heavens. Thor was the strongest of the Norse gods and protected both gods and humans against the forces of evil. In this image he is struggling with the forces of Old Age without his hammer or his iron gloves.
