Description

One etching from the series of 43 for "Pierre Ronsard: livret de folastrit à Janot Parisien", one of 16 full page, hors texte. It was published by Vollard in 1938 in an edition of 230: 30 on Japan Imperial, numbers 31 to 200 on Vergé de Montval (such as this impression). There is also a special edition of 30, numbers I to V on Japan Imperial and VI to XXX on Vérge de Montval.

Although Maillol illustrated several books with lithographs and woodcuts, this is the only one he did with etchings and, in fact, it contains almost the entirety of his work in this medium. The series is considered one of the great erotic illustrated books of the 20th century.
