Description

A slice of Texas Americana, "Collage #1" was done in 1968 by Texas musical semi-legend Little Jewford, (nee: Jeff Shelby) one of the original "Kinky Friedman and the Texas Jewboys" band, based in Austin, Texas. "Little Jewford", who is still performing in New Braufils, Texas did this intricate collage in the best "Beat generation" idiom, a true "Outsider" work. He officially changed his name to "Little Jewford." Hundreds of portraits, some color, some black and white cut from various sources, mostly magazines, carefully cut out and glued to create this composition which measures nearly 30 x 40 inches.

Before joining with Kinky Friedman to form the band in 1973 he "studied" for 4 years at Tulane University in New Orleans. He did one collage each year of college, this being done in 1968, his Freshman year. Originally unsigned, he sent a signed and dated piece of acetate for the gallery to attach to the work, with his permission and encouragement.

His website makes the claim that "Little Jewford is known for his entertaining one-of-a-kind show which blends his unique wit and humor with impressive musical talent. An internationally celebrated piano entertainer and top five finalist for Texas Country Music Association 2019 Keyboard/Pianist of the year, Little Jewford plays everything from Rat Pack cool to sophisticated smooth.

In a lively, ever changing combination, the audience is treated to songs from the Great American Songbook, ragtime, original compositions, classical, comedy and classic country with his own personal stories and musings scattered throughout. He describes his act as a Dean Martin and Victor Borge cocktail, with a twist of the Marx Brothers."
