	Description
An early Modernist seascape by English-born, California-based artist William Alexander Sharp. Though known primarily for his oils and watercolors of Western landscapes, Sharp was equally adept at printmaking, and his monotype style exemplifies the beauty of medium's immediacy. Here, the gestural, energetic lines are simple but deftly rendered, in both the ink and its removal from the matrix. Sharp creates a familiar, calming scene, as the Pacific tide rolls over the ancient rock terraces along the shore.
