This image is likely of a teahouse in the Gion district of Kyoto, which is a major tourism hub known as the last great Geisha district and a destination for traditional entertainment, goods, and its famous historic architecture -- particularly the "machiya" that line its streets. Machiya are traditional wooden townhouses built to accommodate city life, whose street-facing sides are meant for teahouses and other tourist trade, while the residents live upstairs and in the back.
