Description
Though this piece is titled "Vicenza", the church depicted is in fact located 150 miles south in Modena. Pollak was known for his constant sketching even as he traveled; as this was later printed in Austria, it's possible that he mis-titled this work from notes taken on the road.
The Cattedrale Metropolitana di Santa Maria Assunta e San Geminiano, known colloquially as "Duomo di Modena", is a Roman Catholic cathedral known for its striking facade which includes a Catherine window and two lions guarding the entrance. It was designated a UNESCO site in 1997.
