Description

Walter Egel Kuhlman captures the famously moody spring weather of Marin County in Northern California. Like its neighbor to the south, San Francisco, much of what is normally the warmest part of the year elsewhere is often the wettest in Marin, where the foggy marine layer drapes heavily across the landscape for much of the day, parting in the afternoon to make way for sunshine, only to reassemble itself into an impenetrable blanket once again after the sun goes down. In this image he pinpoints the particular beauty found in the shifting light of a spring afternoon, with vivid sunlight illuminating patches of fresh, vibrant grass on a rolling hillside; in the background, the sky continues to play host to a tumbling veil of cloud and mist.
