Evelyn Mitchell Solomon used both sides of the sheet to create this work; however, the inks are thick and opaque, and the opposing sides' influence on each other is minimal. This results in two separate prints. Whether or not this was intentional is not clear, though she chose to apply her name to just one side.
Solomon moved to Pittsburgh, PA around 1950 where she worked with Atelier 17 participant, printmaker George Nama in the print workshop at the Arts and Crafts Center (now the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts) and studied painting with Leonard Lieb (1912-1977). She began working with woodcut around 1960. Evelyn taught at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh.
