Description
The Brucia Witthoft catalog raisonné remarks about this aquatint:
"This was another didactic example commissioned by the Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, N.Y. Smillie began the etching on Oct. 17 after an oil sketch of Set. 11 - Oct. 14 (unlocated), made on the Binghampton Road near Montrose. A pencil sketch of the same subject, also unlocated, was made two days before the painting.
Smillie burnished the plate on Jan. 27, 1892, and brought a proof to the Etching Club exhibit the next day."
