Description
Very little information has been found on the artist Wakyosai. However, their style is extremely similar to that of Yoshijiro "Mokuchu" Urushibara, who executed a series of horse-themed woodcuts in the early 20th century. Perhaps this was a student of his, or perhaps this was a pseudonym. The simplicity of his horse prints deviated greatly from his more well-known, intricately complex color woodcuts, the style of which led Frank Brangwyn and other early 20th century British printmakers to enlist Urushibara's expertise.
