Description
From the first illustrated Jesuit guide for prayerful meditation on the Gospels. The guide was comissioned by Jermone Nadal, a Spanish priest from Majorca who was one of the first ten members of the Jesuits, under the guidance of Ignatius of Loyola (St. Ignatius), for whom Nadal was the personal representative. Included in the original guide were 153 illustrations. This was plate 55 (1st edition; XXXiiiii second edition), "Monday After the 2nd Sunday of Lent"; from 8:1-11: "Jesus Went to the Mount of Olives," indicated by the olive branches engraved on the columns in the hall where Jesus preaches.
