Description
Claire Falkenstein (1908-1997) studied at Atelier 17 with S.W. Hayter where she learned experimental printmaking. She is highly regarded as a painter/printmaker but is also noted for her metal sculpture and jewelry. She would often "print" both, using the sculpture as the matrix, to create a three dimensional collagraph. This Abstract Expressionist color screenprint was created in the same visual language as her three-dimensional works, using a gestural, calligraphic linear composition. The yellow background creates a dimensional element while black lines float across the surface.
