Description
There is another impression of "La Danse" at The Miriam and Ira D. Wallach Division of Art, Prints and Photographs New York Public Library (#1). It is listed as a color woodcut but may well be a paper relief, like the work of Edmond Casarella.
The image is done in 4 colors and is a gestural, Abstract Expressionist work. Oviette studied experimental printmaking in New York with S.W. Hayter at Atelier 17 in the early 1940s where her fellow artists included many of the upcoming Abstract Expressionist artists including Jackson Pollock, deKooning, Rothko, Motherwell and Louise Nevelson, Worden Day, Anne Ryan and Sue Fuller to name a few.
