Description
Richard Correll did a version of "For the Future" as a lithograph in 1954. He recut this woodcut version in 1983. A large collection of Correll's work and his papers can be found in the University Libraries at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington.
The image shows an African-American mother lifting her baby skyward, a symbol of hope for the future.
With the conviction of Derek Chauvin for the murder of George Floyd a crack has been opened and the future looks a little brighter. To quote Leonard Cohen:
"Ring the bells that still can ring. Forget your perfect offering. There is a crack in everything. That's how the light gets in."
