A note from the artist states:

"All 12 images from that series are purely non-representational, and all of them have a single word associated with it. In this case "Bridge." Couldn't tell you if bridge at that point in my career meant anything different from what it means to me now. I've done a few "Bridge" and "Bridge State" series since then. It has to do with crossing the gap between one state or location to another, metaphorically speaking, of course. In this one is seems to have something to do with coming out of a dark place and into a lighter one, or possibly vice versa.

The process is just a simple compilation of layers and scratching through them with razor blades, sandpaper, and a fine point tool."
