One of 11 lithographs Anne Micalov did for the Chicago WPA, this impression of "Recess" has stamped on the verso in black ink: "Federal Arts Project Studios / Works Progress Administration / 433 E. Erie Chicago, Illinois."
"Recess" at a rural one-room school house, with children doing what children do, oblivious to the harsh depression the nation was suffering. These may well have been the best days of their lives, growing up in the Midwest, away from the problems that urban areas were having.
