Description
Fishermen in bright yellow slickers haul boxes of their daily catch from boat to pier. Belzman chose the jackets as the only spots of color to emphasize the classic gray skies of the Pacific Northwest coast. At the time, he was living between Newport and Toledo in western Oregon. He frequently captured the daily lives of working class people, especially fishermen; one such image was included in the exhibition Politics in Prints: Political and Social Images from the University of Oregon Museum of Art (1991).
