Description
Like grapevines, the leaves of certain blueberry cultivars change color with the turning of summer to fall. This makes the blueberry fields of Pacific Northwest farms, common in places like the Willamette Valley, Oregon, spectacular against the region's typical grey autumn skies and evergreen trees and shrubs. At the time of this image's creation, Belzman was living in western Oregon while he taught drawing and painting. To depict the blueberry fields around the places he lived, Belzman used a rich red hue against muted greens to emphasize what he saw along the rural roads of western Oregon.
