A group of children play at war in this World War I-era lithograph. The apparent leader acts as Marshal Joseph Jacques Césaire Joffre (12 January 1852 – 3 January 1931), a French general during the war who most known for regrouping the retreating allied armies, leading to the defeat of the Germans at the strategically decisive First Battle of the Marne in 1914.
