Description
This color aquatint is a take-off on Jan van Eyck's oil painting on an oak panel titled "Madonna of Canon George Van der Paele" in Bruges, Netherlands.
In the center panel the traditional Madonna is replaced by an African-American mother and child. The left panel replaces Saint Donatian of Reims with a Native American chief with a staff. The right panel replaces Saint George and his knight's armor with a gun toting cowboy and flag; the elderly Canon, Joris Van der Paele remains basically the same. Random arrows puncture the Madonna and her surroundings.
